Sentencing in Colorado
'Bearing' sentencing -- Firearms prohibitions
Despite a constitutional right to carry a firearm, as recently as 2008 reaffirmed by the United States Supreme Court, if you are convicted or even accused of a criminal offense, your ability to own, use or possess a firearm may be significantly curtailed. Under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), (9), anyone convicted of a domestic violence offense, is prevented from possessing a firearm. However, this right may be reinstated where the conviction was expunged or set aside”. Colorado law prevents possession of a weapon by a previous offender “for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence”. (C.R.S. §18-12-108.)
